I don't know what the consequences would be in Italy if you did happen to be really unlucky and get caught so you would need to do some of your own research on that.įlying FPV without a spotter is also illegal but pretty much every FPV pilots does it, as is flying BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight). I've never heard of anyone getting caught or fined for using an illegal power level (or using an illegal protocol), so I think the chances of being found out are quite remote. It is up to you whether or not you want to swap your transmitter over from FCC to EU-LBT mode, but to do that on the FrSky Taranis X-Lite you need to use the following procedure. Most pilots run far higher power than legally allowed to ensure a solid failsafe-free RC Lnk.ĮU-LBT (listen-before-talk) is actually supposed to give you a better quality signal than FCC because it listens on the frequency band before broadcasting, so it will choose the cleanest frequency to broadcast on which mitigates interference and packet collision from other external RF transmissions, unlike FCC which just blasts out transmissions on whatever random frequency it picks regardless of what other transmissions might already be getting broadcast on that particular frequency. The same goes with the transmitter power.
If you want to stay truly legal in Europe you also need to ensure that you use no more than 25mW for your video transmission signal power, but unless you are racing in a small field that power limit doesn't get you very far, so most pilots run much higher power than that. That said, virtually all FPV pilots fly illegally in one way or another.
