ugh!!) This disappearing file appears to be a much more common problem on the r24 than I could ever imagine! Too bad I never heard about it until I experienced it myself! THis is NOT q defective unit I have all the verified compatible cards and settings.

I have now lost THREE FULL DAYS of filming (some of which is impossible to re-shoot, so I will have to ADR instead. Which leads me to my main point: THE ZOOM R24 IS WORTHLESS unless you indeed use it as an interface or mixer-only with a computer or laptop! What is the point of selling an audio recorder item that can not RECORD AUDIO!?!?!? Any audio files you record onto the Zoom unit mysteriously disappear. However, since it works with Cubase, that's all that matters.

But, maybe that's just me taking 3 days to learn to interface with Cubase was time enough to spend, I couldn't spend additional precious days learning to integrate with other software that i'm already familiar with. However, it rarely works with other software as an interface, even though it should be compatible.

Although it takes quite some time (and skill, and just plain dumb luck from trial & error) to learn how to set it up as an INTERFACE, this unit WILL work flawlessly with the included Cubase LE software. (Yes I know there were better-suited options in that price-range but I also needed a unit that could record live music as well.). Using this for on-set recording of short & feature films.

When you factor in its budget-friendly price-tag, it really becomes an incredible option for any aspiring creative person. With all of the potential uses and creative possibilities the R24 provides, it truly stands in a class of its own. Control surfaces help people focus on their creative work, rather than make them feel like they're checking their email. This is a huge benefit for musicians as well. The control surface capabilities of the R24 will also benefit NLE users. The dedicated transport controls and jog/shuttle can be used to control the software, allowing the user to be less dependent on their mouse and keyboard. Filmmakers and photographers can record voice overs and ADR (additional dialog recording) directly into their favorite non-linear editing programs like Final Cut Pro. Musicians can use it to track and mix with their favorite music production program, or use the included Cubase 4 LE software. Using the R24 as a USB 2.0 audio interface to record into a computer also opens up different possibilities. If you're a photographer, you can record ambient sounds for use in a slide show presentation, and use the R24 as the playback device at the installation. If you're a filmmaker, you can record all of your lavalier and shotgun microphones in the field, and mix them to camera as well. If you're a musician, this means that you can record a full live band and overdub up to 24 tracks (8 simultaneously), without ever touching a computer. Using the R24 as a stand-alone recorder could mean many different things to different people. Whether you're recording musicians or working on an indie film you'll always have a use for the Zoom R24.

The R24 Multi-Track Recorder, Interface, Controller, and Sampler from Zoom unites many different audio tools into a single powerful unit it's a stand-alone multi-track recorder, and a USB 2.0 computer audio interface/control surface, as well as a battery powered field recorder, mixer, drum machine, and sampler.
